The case

New Zealand wants to have fewer immigrants, but would like to attract more affluent people.

The commentary

New Zealand seems to have become some kind of “safe harbour” in the event of a disaster. According to a study, the two islands downunder are one of the places where one is most likely to survive a nuclear war, an asteroid impact or the eruption of a super volcano. This may be the reason why many wealthy people such as Google co-founder Larry Page or “Titanic” director James Cameron have acquired a second home in New Zealand, made possible by the Active Investor Plus Visa, which is still available without restrictions. The prerequisite is an investment of NZD 15 million, which corresponds to the equivalent of over CHF 8 million.
