The commentary

This consultation focusses on determining with which partner states Switzerland should automatically exchange cryptoasset-related information as of 2026. The Federal Council has proposed to include certain partner states out of the 111 states and territories with which Switzerland already has activated AEOI agreements.

The exchange of cryptoasset information will depend on whether these partner states express an interest in such an exchange and whether they meet the requirements established by the OECD’s Crypto-Asset Reporting Framework (CARF). Additionally, before implementing the automatic exchange, the Federal Council will reassess whether the partner states continue to meet the AEOI standards. This review mechanism will be expanded to include cryptoassets, necessitating a comprehensive revision of the 2017 federal decree that originally established the AEOI framework.
