ETH Zurich has maintained its position as the top university in continental Europe, ranking 11th globally in the 2024 Times Higher Education World University Rankings.

The commentary

ETH Zurich continues to demonstrate its excellence, remaining a leader in teaching, research, and international collaboration. Switzerland’s other prominent institution, the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Lausanne (EPFL), also improved its standing, moving up to 32nd place globally.

In terms of global leadership, Oxford University (UK) holds the top spot for the ninth consecutive year, followed by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and Harvard University, both from the United States. The rankings are based on 18 indicators assessing aspects like teaching quality, research output, knowledge transfer, and international outlook, covering a total of 2,092 universities globally.
