The commentary
Sun bought a banana for USD 6.2 million this week; fruit in this price range is not usually available in a supermarket. Sun found what he had been looking for at Sotheby’s, exclaiming: “I am pleased to announce that I have bought the banana!!!”, adding that he was going to devour it in the following days. It seems even the super-rich don’t simply toss their bananas on the compost heap, though this particular one was taped to the wall, which may have affected its flavour.
The banana forms part of the artwork called Comedian by Maurizio Cattelan, which Sun finds ‘iconic’ and seems to have found parallels to the crypto industry.
