The case

The attitude of the USA under President Trump entails considerable challenges for the OECD minimum tax.

The commentary

Without US participation, enforcement will weaken, and the EU may attempt to push the tax through independently, risking conflicts with Washington.

Switzerland is in a delicate position as it adapted its tax policy to comply with the requirements but is also facing potential disadvantages if the initiative fails. The key question is whether the EU is going to put pressure on Switzerland or whether a more flexible solution might emerge. One will have to wait and see what happens – which was also pointed out in a meeting of experts of economiesuisse today.
