The commentary
There was a notable increase in the number of Swiss citizens living abroad in 2024, with a rise of 13,300 people (i.e. a 1.6 % increase). The statistics highlight a few interesting trends, such as the high percentage of dual citizenship among the Swiss abroad (75 %), which is even more pronounced among younger Swiss nationals (85 % of those under 18).
This growth in the Swiss expatriate population might reflect broader trends in mobility, international migration, or changes in the global job market. Additionally, the dual nationality figures suggest that many Swiss citizens living abroad have strong connections to the countries in which they reside.
