Migration is expected to be the main contributor to population growth, accounting for about 75% of the increase. In 2023, Switzerland experienced its fastest population growth in 60 years, with net migration reaching a record high of 142,300, including approximately 52,000 Ukrainians.

The population will continue to age, with a significant increase in the number of people aged 65 and over. This trend is expected to have implications for the labor market and social services.

Population growth will be most pronounced in the cantons close to Zurich and Geneva, while some regions, such as Ticino, may experience a decline.
