David Hockney

The case

The Fondation Louis Vuitton offered David Hockney, one of the most influential artists of the 20th and 21st century,  that he could have the entire building from 9 April to 31 August 2025 to put his art work on display. This exhibition is bound to be exceptional in its scale and its originality. 

The commentary

The exhibition brings together more than 400 of Hockney’s works (from 1955 to 2025), including paintings from international, institutional as well as private collections and also works from the artist’s own studio and foundation. There are works in a variety of media, including oil paint and acrylic paint, ink, pencil and charcoal drawing, digital art (works on iPhone, iPad, photographic drawings) and immersive video installations.

The current record price for a painting is USD 90 million for David Hockney’s 1972 Portrait of an Artist (Pool with Two Figures), achieved Christie’s in New York on 15 November 2018.
