The commentary
In December 2024, 2,594,700 persons, both in Switzerland and abroad, were pensioners while 223,700 persons received a survivor’s pension. Compared to 2023, the number of pension recipients increased by 1.9 %, i.e. by a net of 48,900 people. In 2024, insured persons paid contributions amounting to CHF 38.7 billion, the second most important source of funding was the federal government, which contributed CHF 10.3 billion, while VAT generated revenue of CHF 4.4 billion.
