The new package significantly increases pressure on Russia’s war economy, targeting key sectors such as energy, finance, the military-industrial base, special economic zones as well as the enablers and profiteers of its war of aggression. The latest package also includes a ban on Russian liquified natural gas (LNG) imports and targets entities, ranging from Chinese refiners and Central Asian banks to a Russian prison medic. “It is becoming increasingly difficult for Vladimir Putin to fund this war,” said Kaja Kallas, the EU High Representative, in a post on X.
