The commentary

The exhibition at the Museum of Fine Arts, Budapest, presents a selection of masterpieces from the Christoph Blocher’s Collection, spanning artistic movements from Realism to Symbolism and Expressionism. It features works by renowned Swiss artists such as Albert Anker, Ferdinand Hodler, Giovanni Segantini, Félix Vallotton, Giovanni and Augusto Giacometti, Cuno Amiet as well as Adolf Dietrich. These works offer a rich overview of the diversity and development of Swiss art from the late 19th to the early 20th century.

Ferdinand Hodler’s artworks are highly valued, with major oil paintings often selling for CHF millions or USD, while smaller works on paper range from thousands to tens of thousands. Hodler’s auction record is over USD 8.9 million for “Lake Geneva from Saint-Prex” in 2007, with top landscapes often exceeding CHF 5 million. (SWI swissinfo)
