The MSK project has been designated as a key project of the Federal Administration’s digital transformation and IT portfolio.

The commentary

The decision was taken by the Federal Chancellor on 1 April 2026 after a consultation with the Conference of Secretaries General. Link

MSK aims to replace the existing Polycom system by 2035 with a crisis-resilient and failure-proof mobile communication system for authorities, emergency and rescue services as well as operators of critical infrastructure.

Due to its strategic importance and significant investment volume, MSK has been classified as a key project. Currently, there are 21 such key projects, representing less than 5 % of the project portfolio by number, but around half of the total expenditure in the civilian sector.
