The case
We are getting sick and tired of being swamped with headlines such as wine crisis, gloomy outlook, downward trend. At the same time, these headlines only tell part of the story.

The commentary
A closer reading of the 35-page long Wine Year 2025 report by the Swiss Federal Office for Agriculture offers a far more encouraging picture: Swiss wine has been gaining lost ground, despite the fact that, all in all, wine consumption is continuing to decline. While the total market dwindled by 3.3 %, consumption of Swiss wine increased from 77.4 million litres in 2024 to 79.2 million litres in 2025, which marks an increase of 2.3 %. So in a shrinking market, Swiss wines have not only been able to hold their position, but they have been able to strengthen it.
