The commentary
While technological progress has always replaced certain jobs, it has also always created new prosperity and employment. What is new is that AI increasingly affects traditional entry-level roles. Tasks such as research, standard analysis and basic coding are now handled by AI agents, thus putting internships and junior positions at risk.
Over time, this could leave companies without enough future specialists and leaders. Entry-level careers are beginning to shift from routine execution towards supervising, evaluating and managing AI-supported processes.
In order to bridge this “junior gap”, Switzerland needs flexible labour markets, practice-oriented education and companies willing to invest in young talent.
