The commentary
Hauser & Wirth sold Picasso’s Le peintre et son modèle dans un paysage for USD 35 million (CHF 27 million). The gallery also sold a Cy Twombly work for USD 5 million and a Louise Bourgeois painting for USD 2.5 million, with founder Iwan Wirth calling the day the gallery’s “strongest first day ever”.
Other highlights included a Picasso sold by Akmine Reich Gallery for more than USD 6 million and David Hockney’s Studio Interior #2 (2014), which Gray Gallery sold for USD 8.5 million.
