The commentary
For many people in Switzerland, pets are cherished members of the family rather than just animals. However, when dogs or cats become ill, veterinary treatments can quickly entail significant costs. Procedures such as hip replacement surgery for a dog can cost up to CHF 5,500, while treatments like chemotherapy can be similarly expensive. Despite these potential financial burdens, pet insurance remains relatively uncommon in Switzerland.
