ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Konrad Häuptli graduated from the University of Berne, qualified as an attorney-at-law and was admitted to the Bar of the Canton of Berne. He joined HSBC in 2002 after working with Swiss Re for over 20 years. He then went on to work for KENDRIS in 2016 after retiring as former CEO of HSBC’s Trust Companies in Switzerland. Konrad Häuptli is a member of the Advisory Board of the Swiss Association of Trust Companies (SATC) and is also a member of mixed expert groups representing SATC. He has been managing family assets and has been involved in entrepreneurial activities, board assignments as well as private equity investments.

This year’s annual Swiss Ambassadors’ Conference is held in Bern from 17 to 21 August 2026.

The commentary

Discussions will, among other topics, address the evolving international situation, Switzerland’s room for manoeuvre in foreign policy as well as the country’s relations with key international partners. Against this backdrop, Federal Councillor Ignazio Cassis will welcome German Federal Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul for an open forum with members of the Swiss diplomatic corps.

The Swiss Ambassadors’ Conference has a long-standing tradition, having first been held in 1887. It was suspended during the Second World War and resumed in 1945.

In 2026, the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs (FDFA) continues to operate a global network of approximately 170 foreign representations. This network comprises 103 embassies, as well as missions, consulates and cooperation offices, enabling Switzerland to advance its interests and maintain diplomatic relations around the world.
