The commentary
A passionate photographer, motorcar driver and mountaineer, Dübi-Müller also posed for Ferdinand Hodler and other artists. With Van Gogh, Hodler and a Cabriolet, the Kunstmuseum Basel presents the first major exhibition devoted to her extraordinary life and legacy.
Bringing together around 80 works by renowned artists from her international collection alongside striking photographs and previously unpublished documents, the exhibition offers a multi-faceted portrait of Dübi-Müller and her world. It explores her relationships with artists, her adventurous and independent spirit as well as her pioneering role as a collector and patron.
The Dübi-Müller Foundation comprises around 190 works by renowned artists, including Hodler, Amiet, van Gogh, Cézanne, Picasso, Matisse and Klimt. The collection is estimated to have a current market value of CHF 100 – 300 million, if not more.
