“It is an official means of identification issued by the government and is a free and optional addition to the physical identity card. To best protect people’s privacy both online and in the real world, the e-ID meets the highest standards in security, data protection and trustworthiness.
The government operates the necessary trust infrastructure and supports other authorities and organizations in issuing electronic ID cards, which enables simpler and more secure processes and reduces administrative burdens for users, authorities, and businesses.” (e-ID homepage).
